Christ in you in ’22 – the hope of glory!

“Christ in you, the hope of glory!”

I awakened this morning to this phrase from Colossians 1:28 filling my mind: “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” It gave me peace about 2021 and anticipation for good in what lies ahead in 2022—no matter what it might become. As Julia awakened and moved to the edge of the bed, and I switched her to a higher flow, recirculating canula for her oxygen, I could look at her and smile saying, “This too is about Christ in you, the hope of glory!”

Nothing, absolutely nothing we experience in following Christ lacks meaning. Yes, it’s all working to produce an eternal glory beyond imagining, but astoundingly, it’s also giving us the privilege of showing forth the glory of Christ’s character and purposes RIGHT NOW—no matter what we’re experiencing! Amazing!!

“Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness—the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.”

Colossians 1:24-29 NIV

What is the “hope of glory”?

What is the hope of glory in this context – a context of suffering while courageously strenuously holding forth for Christ? Is it the hope of personally shining brightly or being praised and thought of as something great? No, it is the hope of personally displaying the nature and character of Christ in the good and bad of life, and finally receiving His “welcome home” and “well done” for eternity!

Happy New Year everyone!

We hope to see God’s glory revealed in the events and experiences of 2022 as HE is reveals His incredible mercy and grace in and through us. For this possibility alone, we can move forward with joyous anticipation to whatever lies ahead.
